How can you deal with mold and mildew problems in your home? Mold and mildew are two things that need to be dealt with immediately as they can lead to very serious health concerns but can easily destroy your home. Some homes have actually been quarantined because of mold growth.

Mold and mildew can be quite frustrating because it seems like they continue to grow and grow and no matter how hard you focus on scrubbing your home and trying to contain it you may need to hire professionals to come in and take care of it.

The problem that many homeowners find is that it’s frustrating as the mold spores can spread in a hurry if you do not destroy them the first time. Mildew is spurred by the growth of mold as well and since they are airborne, they can spread around the home quickly.

The biggest areas in the home where you commonly deal with mold and mildew growth areas that are exposed to moisture. The bathroom and kitchen are common but you also have issues with it around the water heater and in the basement of your home. Wherever you have any water exposure and it’s dark, you have a good chance of getting mold and mildew growth happening.

Mold likes to be in the dark but it loves warm, humid environments. These areas are common places in the home where you don’t have a lot of airflow happening and this makes it simple for the mold to grow. However cold areas can easily grow mold just as easily. Since there are so many different types of mold out there you need to identify which type you are dealing with in order to treat it effectively.

Check on your pipes in the basement, especially in the winter to make sure that they are not “sweating”. You have to examine all the pipes to ensure that you do not have a leak or a drip anywhere as this will quickly cause mold growth to occur. You need to know what you are dealing with and it needs to be taken care of quickly.

If you have a leak, get it fixed, and then make sure you are using fans and other things to properly dry out the wood and other things that have gotten wet. You need to completely dry them and then work on ventilation for the room to be sure that you are introducing fresh air to the room and you aren’t dealing with air that has mold spores that can spread around.

It is a smart idea to add a ventilation fan to your bathrooms. Since the bathrooms can easily be areas that are prone to mold growth you need to add a fan here to limit the amount of humidity in this room. This is a great way to keep your bathroom properly cleaned and ventilated.

Do not let mold and mildew growth get out of control. You need to use daily shower cleaners and other products in the bathroom in order to clean it up. You need to use these products as they will reduce the number of spores in the shower or other areas where water is commonly used.

The good news is that a lot of the mildew and mold in the home are not harmful. Black mold is something that is concerning. You can always take a sample and send it to a mold testing facility to know what type of mold you have and to know what you need to do in order to get rid of it. If you are concerned, hire a professional cleaning service to properly clean up the mold so you don’t need to worry.
